The Magic Behind the Muppet Show
While We’re Waiting…
Hi ho, and welcome to the Scandinavian Muppet Art Blog! We are Scandinavian cartoonists and animators, Hans Jørgen Sandnes (Norway) and Andreas Qassim (Sweden).
We became Muppet fans at an early age (a looong time ago). This blog should bear witness (Fozzie: Aaaah!) that we’re simply unable to grow out of it. We feel that the Muppets somehow influenced our choice of career paths, probably earlier on than we would like to admit. The Muppet Show, Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock characters made their debut on television screens, but they lived on in children’s drawing pads all over the world. Not least in Scandinavia! And some of us never stopped drawing. Once the dream had settled in Us, we kept believing, kept pretending…
“It starts when we’re kids, a show-off in school
Makin’ faces at friends, you’re a clown and a fool.
Doin’ prat-falls and bird-calls and bad imitations
Ignoring your homework, now that’s dedication.
You work to the mirror, you’re getting standing ovations.
You’re burning with hope, you’re building up steam.
What was once juvenilish is grown-up and stylish,
You’re close to your dream.
Then somebody out there loves you,
Stands up and hollers for more;
You found a home at the Magic Store.”
The Muppet Movie 1979
We could go on forever citing crucial passages from the Muppet TV-shows and films, writing about how the characters, worlds and imagination of Jim Henson influenced us, but instead we thought we would express this the way we do best, by drawing. And we’d like to invite You to join us in this endeavor!
To every artist out there who ever drew a Muppet:
“Come with me, and you’ll be
in a world of pure imagination.
Take a look, and you’ll see
into your imagination.”

The Scandinavian Muppet Art Blog will be all about art. From now on, we will only post artwork, the name of the artist, and a link to the artist’s website. To get this thing off the ground, we will post one piece of artwork every day up until christmas. We have loads of amazing artists coming up. Returning visitors are up for a treat, we promise!
See you tomorrow on The Scandinavian Muppet Art Blog!
